Hi there, I'm Trina.

I’m a movement educator who helps teachers tap into their own brilliance and understand how to break the rules, so they can create new and inventive exercises and classes to meet their students’ needs.

I received my training through STOTT Pilates® and am an E-RYT 500. I created Yoga Deconstructed® and Pilates Deconstructed® to show teachers how to take an interdisciplinary approach to foster an embodied understanding of yoga and Pilates in relation to modern movement science.

I love helping my private clients get out of pain I love helping my private clients get out of pain by getting STRONGER.

@ashleyfranceshoffman is a superstar Pilates teacher & personal trainer here in LA and we started working together last fall.

Her first session was on September 27 and she’s been coming once a week ever since (minus a few weeks off for the winter holidays).

She was dealing with some left shoulder pain so I created her strength programming with specific regressions for her horizontal and vertical pushing exercises.

After 3.5 month of graded exposure and progressive overload, she no longer needs those regressions because her left shoulder is now capable of doing the SAME THINGS as her right shoulder.

Isn’t that cool?

Human bodies are amazingly adaptable when given the appropriate stimuli.

Today I am celebrating Ashley’s hard work and dedication, but truth be told we have SO MUCH FUN while she’s doing the work.

Getting stronger and recovering from pain can be a fun learning experience when you use appropriate regressions and stay CONSISTENT.

It is a women’s right to choose what she wears. This is unacceptable. 🚨 “The Missouri House of Representatives proposed a bill Wednesday that would restrict women’s dress code in the state’s House, but would not tighten the dress code for men, eventually passing a version of the bill calling for women to cover their arms.” Via @thehill 🎞️ via @nowthisnews

Adding plyometrics into my program has been about Adding plyometrics into my program has been about 6 years in the making. It’s come after years of building strength to give my hypermobile joints some much needed tension and SPRING!

Loaded calf raises have helped me cross the bridge from strength to plyometrics.

I’m sharing this because while the bread and butter compound lifts are crucial, accessory exercises like calf raises can be a key component of your strength training program.

My calves have always been tiny btw, but maybe that will change with some more time under tension 🤪🤷‍♀️

What are your favorite accessory lifts?

Thanks for making my day @growing_up_80s ! I used Thanks for making my day @growing_up_80s !

I used to print things just so I could get out of my chair and walk to the printer but this would have been a much better idea.

Thank god I no longer have a desk job. I never minded sitting at a desk in school because most of the time I was learning new things but “job sitting” with no learning made me go to very dark places.

Can anyone else relate?

Sometimes the key to mastering a bodyweight moveme Sometimes the key to mastering a bodyweight movement like Skandasana is to progressively load it.

In the strength and conditioning world, Skandasana is called a lateral lunge or a Cossack squat.

You can add load to a Cossack squat in a myriad of ways, such as adding a dumbbell, kettlebell, barbell, etc.

Perhaps you can easily get into Skandasana because you are naturally flexible and gravity takes you there, BUT YOU CAN’T GET OUT OF IT because you’re not strong enough in that range of motion.

Or the opposite…you are not flexible enough to get into Skandasana even with the help of gravity but by adding load you CAN get to the bottom position of the squat.

This is where progressive overload comes into play and can help with BOTH situations!

Progressive overload is when you gradually increase the weight, frequency, or number of repetitions in your strength training program. This allows your nervous system and musculoskeletal system to adapt and get stronger.

For example, because I do 30 pound kettlebell Cossack squats (4 sets of 6 reps) in my personalized strength training program, doing Skandasana as transition from Scorpion with bodyweight only is EASY.

By practicing Cossack squats with an external load, I can connect to my core/midline and increase global body tension/irradiation. This vastly improves my motor control and coordination throughout the entire range of motion in the movement!

The body naturally organizes around load. If you’ve ever done a bodyweight squat and compared it to a loaded squat, you know what I’m talking about ;).

As @angusbradley92 said so succinctly:

“Expecting someone to perfect a bodyweight squat before adding load is asinine.

Correctly placed load makes it EASIER to control your center of mass and will give people MORE movement options.”
