TA_BOOK-Promo

These professionally filmed and edited videos will teach you a series of techniques and sequences that can be mixed and matched to create unique classes to:

  • Help your students develop movement skills and reduce their risk of injury within the scope of yoga, Pilates or any other movement modality.
  • Regress and progress yoga asana to better serve students with limitations in mobility, hypermobility, or a history of pain and injury
  • Integrate somatics, preparatory exercises, sensory feedback methods, and progressive loading strategies into your yoga classes

About the types of classes you can create using the video companion

The tracks are organized in such a way that you can decide if you would like to emphasize the spine, upper body, or lower body during class. It also allows you to decide if you want to design your class around a peak pose. While the final chapter of the book How to design a Yoga Deconstructed® class and this video companion includes three class templates, there are endless possibilities in which you can innovate and adjust these sequences to expand beyond the templates provided in the book.

How the video companion is organized

Track 1: Variations of constructive rest
Track 2: Sensory feedback methods and somatic sequences
Track 3: Preparatory exercises in supine, prone, and side lying
Track 4: Preparatory exercises in kneeling and seated
Track 5: Preparatory exercises in standing
Track 6: Movement sequences and flows that incorporate more traditional yoga poses

While you do not need to purchase the book to take advantage of the video companion, it is highly recommended that you have the book as a reference to orient yourself to the concepts and sequences that the videos are based upon.

Once you purchase the video companion it is yours to keep forever.

Cumulative length of video footage: 3 HOURS and 48 MINUTES

I love helping my private clients get out of pain I love helping my private clients get out of pain by getting STRONGER.

@ashleyfranceshoffman is a superstar Pilates teacher & personal trainer here in LA and we started working together last fall.

Her first session was on September 27 and she’s been coming once a week ever since (minus a few weeks off for the winter holidays).

She was dealing with some left shoulder pain so I created her strength programming with specific regressions for her horizontal and vertical pushing exercises.

After 3.5 month of graded exposure and progressive overload, she no longer needs those regressions because her left shoulder is now capable of doing the SAME THINGS as her right shoulder.

Isn’t that cool?

Human bodies are amazingly adaptable when given the appropriate stimuli.

Today I am celebrating Ashley’s hard work and dedication, but truth be told we have SO MUCH FUN while she’s doing the work.

Getting stronger and recovering from pain can be a fun learning experience when you use appropriate regressions and stay CONSISTENT.

Adding plyometrics into my program has been about Adding plyometrics into my program has been about 6 years in the making. It’s come after years of building strength to give my hypermobile joints some much needed tension and SPRING!

Loaded calf raises have helped me cross the bridge from strength to plyometrics.

I’m sharing this because while the bread and butter compound lifts are crucial, accessory exercises like calf raises can be a key component of your strength training program.

My calves have always been tiny btw, but maybe that will change with some more time under tension 🤪🤷‍♀️

What are your favorite accessory lifts?

Thanks for making my day @growing_up_80s ! I used Thanks for making my day @growing_up_80s !

I used to print things just so I could get out of my chair and walk to the printer but this would have been a much better idea.

Thank god I no longer have a desk job. I never minded sitting at a desk in school because most of the time I was learning new things but “job sitting” with no learning made me go to very dark places.

Can anyone else relate?

Sometimes the key to mastering a bodyweight moveme Sometimes the key to mastering a bodyweight movement like Skandasana is to progressively load it.

In the strength and conditioning world, Skandasana is called a lateral lunge or a Cossack squat.

You can add load to a Cossack squat in a myriad of ways, such as adding a dumbbell, kettlebell, barbell, etc.

Perhaps you can easily get into Skandasana because you are naturally flexible and gravity takes you there, BUT YOU CAN’T GET OUT OF IT because you’re not strong enough in that range of motion.

Or the opposite…you are not flexible enough to get into Skandasana even with the help of gravity but by adding load you CAN get to the bottom position of the squat.

This is where progressive overload comes into play and can help with BOTH situations!

Progressive overload is when you gradually increase the weight, frequency, or number of repetitions in your strength training program. This allows your nervous system and musculoskeletal system to adapt and get stronger.

For example, because I do 30 pound kettlebell Cossack squats (4 sets of 6 reps) in my personalized strength training program, doing Skandasana as transition from Scorpion with bodyweight only is EASY.

By practicing Cossack squats with an external load, I can connect to my core/midline and increase global body tension/irradiation. This vastly improves my motor control and coordination throughout the entire range of motion in the movement!

The body naturally organizes around load. If you’ve ever done a bodyweight squat and compared it to a loaded squat, you know what I’m talking about ;).

As @angusbradley92 said so succinctly:

“Expecting someone to perfect a bodyweight squat before adding load is asinine.

Correctly placed load makes it EASIER to control your center of mass and will give people MORE movement options.”
