My business background?Designing a collection of My business background?Designing a collection of feather & crystal necklaces & selling them to stores in 1999.You see, before I was a yoga and Pilates teacher I had a stint as a self employed jewelry designer. My current career as a Movement Educator only began 13 years ago after several other careers & MANY other jobs. One of my “nine lives” over the course of about 15 years involved making jewelry and selling it to high end stores like @barneysny & Onward Kashiyama. It was the late ‘90’s, I lived in the east village and was obsessed with feathers, crystals, & woven beaded rings. So I did what any practical person would do...I made them, wore them + sold them. You see, when I get excited about something I’ve created...whether it’s an exercise or crocheted wire bracelets, I want to share it with the world. When I had my jewelry business I was a one woman show. I sourced the findings, balanced the spreadsheets, made the brochures and “look book” with fancy paper, scissors, glue, a giant blue iMac & a photo printer.I remember being so upset with myself back then because I couldn’t PICK ONE CAREER and stick with it. Each time I’d start a new career I thought I had “wasted” my time in the previous career.Boy was I wrong. It turned out that all the jobs I had in my 20’s and early 30’s ended up laying the foundation of skills I would need to run my business today (minus the internet of course). The certifications, trainings and continuing ed workshops taught me how to teach movement, but my previous nine lives as a warehouse worker, nanny, fashion designer, receptionist, textile designer, sales rep manager, retail sales person and guy/gal Friday in every industry imaginable taught me the skills I use NOW to do all the necessary things to run my business today such as...1. Sales
2. Public relations
3. Contract negotiations
4. Customer service
5. Marketing
6. SchedulingAnd just about every other boring admin task you can imagine. Making the feather and crystal jewelry for the @custobarcelona models to wear in their Bryant Park @bryantparknyc fashion show in NYC was the fun part. The rest was the hustle and grind. But when you love to create (con’t)

Here’s the abbreviated workshop descriptions: ⁣
⁣
Workshop 1⁣
Incorporating Somatics and Rolling Patterns in Classes⁣
⁣
Somatic exercises serve as regressions for traditional yoga poses and allow us to teach osteokinematics in a way that is embodied and down regulates the nervous system. This workshop will teach you how to select and sequence somatic exercises in supine, side lying, and prone to help your students improve movement patterns and prepare their bodies to navigate external load and asana. ⁣
⁣
Workshop 2⁣
⁣
Using Primal Sequencing to Evolve Passive Postures into Active Movements⁣
⁣
Traditional asana involves many passive kneeling and seated positions. While this alone is not an issue, many of our students are not well adapted to sit on the floor and find it difficult or uncomfortable to assume these postures and transition to kneeling or standing. This workshop will give you strategies and mini sequences to incorporate into your classes to improve mobility, strength, and power in a way that is fun and challenging!⁣
⁣
Workshop 3⁣
Applying Progressive Load and Control to Standing Transitions⁣
⁣
Many standing poses involve holding one position at your end range of motion for a sustained period of time. While this may promote isometric strength at your end range, it doesn’t build strength in the transitions. This workshop will explore how to apply strength training principles, such as progressive overload to standing poses and transitions. ⁣
⁣
Workshop 4⁣
An Interdisciplinary Movement Approach to Yoga Sequencing⁣
⁣
Are you struggling to connect the dots between yoga and all of the movement modalities that you’re studying? This (con’t below)
Hey ya’ll, just popping in to let you know that Hey ya’ll, just popping in to let you know that my Yoga Deconstructed®: Creativity Meets Science Immersion, is happening online February 6-7. ⁣

Workshop 1⁣
Movement Science Meets Asana - A New Paradigm⁣
⁣
Unfortunately, most people are desk bound and their only movement for the day is during yoga class, so their bodies aren’t well adapted for the large ranges of motion required. Conversely, many of our students who are able to practice all the poses are still in pain, because they aren’t balancing out their extreme ranges of motion with stability and strength. If you’re struggling with helping your students become more embodied and want strategies to create a safer class environment, this workshop is for you. ⁣
⁣
Workshop 2⁣
A New Beginning : An Updated Approach to Prepare Your Students for Asana⁣
⁣
Despite our best efforts, many of our students don’t feel safe in classes, because they’re afraid of doing the poses “incorrectly” or the poses create pain. This workshop will teach you how to help your students become aware of movement blind spots that may contribute to pain in more advanced poses, and how to choose somatic exercises to help prepare the body for challenging asana. ⁣
⁣
Workshop 3⁣
Preparatory Exercise: Introducing Creativity & Critical Thinking Into Your Classes⁣
⁣
Exercise science suggests that incorporating preparatory exercises into yoga classes can help prepare the body for more challenging poses, while bridging the gap between our sedentary lifestyle and asana. If you’ve tried to incorporate preparatory exercises into your teaching, but have struggled with exercise selection and sequencing, then this workshop is for you. ⁣
⁣
Workshop 4⁣
Putting It All Together: A Revolutionary & Non Dogmatic Approach to Asana⁣

Unlock your creative potential and movement smarts by learning how to combine applied anatomy with the (continued below)

I first heard of @trinaaltman through my teacher, Bernadette Birney, right around the time she opened @stamfordyogacenter. Bernadette had broken free from dogmatic yoga and was exploring movement from a more creative, scientific-based and multidisciplinary approach.I became immediately interested in learning more from what I saw through Trina’s social media, and lucky for me, she was scheduled to teach a weekend of workshops at YogaWorks in NYC (swipe left for a sneak peek of the typewriter pelvis, which I still teach often). It was April 2017 and I can easily say that this was the beginning of my transformation as a yoga teacher.Trina's captivating personality - warm, charming, assertive and curious, set the perfect tone for a weekend of learning beyond what I had imagined. Every workshop was fun, presented with clarity, with creative use of props and a fresh approach to familiar content.I have been a Trina fan ever since and I was lucky to attend her workshops in person again last year, and her online classes and Somatics workshop this year. Her teaching is always so easy to incorporate into our own because she’s not interested in being above everyone else. She’s genuinely invested in helping others, engaging in conversation and sharing knowledge. On December 24th, I opened my mail to find that her book arrived just in time to make it under the tree for Christmas. I’m thrilled to have it in my hands now and to explore it in the last few days of this year.Congratulations, Trina! I’m so excited for you ❣️
